James Fahy Design won the prestigious “Best in American Living” award for best one-of-a-kind custom home in the 4001 – 7500 sq. ft category for our design Shorewater.

This contemporary shingle style home built on the shores of Lake Ontario emulates the classic ocean front retreats of Nantucket. As proof that even the most spectacular home can be tastefully renovated with proper planning and attention to detail, we designed major additions and renovations to Shorewater several years after receiving this prestigious award. Custom Home Design

Our custom home design services include both a creative and personalized touch to meet the individual needs of our clients. Each custom design is developed in a progressive stage from conceptual design, to preliminary/ design development, and finally to construction documents. This process ensures that all options are explored and the final plan is a true reflection of our client’s requests. Additionally, our process allows preliminary cost estimates to be tendered during the design development stage to ensure the project budget is fully understood prior to developing final construction documents.

Addition – Renovation Design

Our custom design services for additions and renovations to existing homes include the same step-by- step approach followed in custom home design. Respecting the style and scale of the existing home and its relationship to the project site and neighborhood setting is paramount in design as we plan the addition/renovation. If accurate construction drawings of your existing home are not available for reference, we will coordinate an on-site visit to document existing conditions pertaining to the proposed addition. The ultimate goal is to develop an addition that meets all of your dreams and compliments your home and site as if it were there from the day you first moved in!

Multifamily & Mixed Use Buildings

Our multifamily design studio is the fastest growing design group within our firm. Apartments that live and feel like a home are our trademark. Critical to our success is an understanding of the varied demands of the multifamily markets from young professionals and growing families to empty nesters and seniors. We work closely with each developer to meet the demands of their target market while respecting budget constraints set for the project.

As an extension of our multifamily design studio we provide design services for mixed use buildings combining ground-floor commercial-retail spaces with upper floor residential apartment units. The goal is to create a functional, attractive and code compliant environment that meets both the residential and commercial needs requested.

Similar to our townhouse portfolio, our extensive portfolio of multifamily and mixed use buildings, often serves as our base plans for new communities or simply as inspiration as we develop a custom design to meet specific project goals.

Our Commercial Design Team was initially formed to better serve our residential builder and developer clients as they expanded into other areas of development. As we have grown over the years our commercial team has gained the reputation for providing the same quality of service to commercial clients that made us a leader in the single and multifamily residential design industry.
